Withdrawal from IRONMAN 70.3 World Championships

PRESS RELEASE: For Immediate Release

Helle Frederiksen withdraws from IRONMAN 70.3 World Championships

(Boulder, Colorado) РDanish Olympian and Uplace-BMC Pro Triathlon team athlete, Helle Frederiksen withdraws from the 2015 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championships.

As one of the pre-race medal contenders, Frederiksen announces her withdrawal from the upcoming IRONMAN 70.3 World Championships due to injury. Having struggled to overcome a knee issue that has hindered her training progression since early May, Frederiksen has ruled herself out of a start at this years World Championships event which takes place in Zell Am See, Austria on August 30th. The fierce and highly consistent Dane, whom now resides in Boulder, Colorado, USA, has hit the podium in 25 out of 26 events that she has started since August 2012, with the exception of 1 x DNF.

Frederiksen’s emphatic 3:55:50 finish time, recorded on route to winning last years inaugural Challenge Bahrain event, stands today as the fastest time ever completed by a female over the 1.9km swim, 90km bike, 21.1km run half-distance triathlon format. Despite world best times and a 2015 season start that saw Frederiksen emphatically win the IRONMAN 70.3 Latin American Championships and IRONMAN 70.3 Texas, Frederiksen expressed disappointment in her need to withdraw from the upcoming World Championships.

“I live for the big races. Racing on the biggest stage the sport can provide, against the toughest competition imaginable, is what drives me. It shatters me to know I won’t be a part of this years IRONMAN 70.3 World Championships.”

“My health and long term consistency amongst the absolute top of the sport motivates me more than short term success. I need to listen to my body and give it the time it needs to heal.”

Frederiksen anticipates a return to racing in the late Autumn with all eyes on defending her Challenge Bahrain title in November. Helle is currently in Denmark receiving treatment from long time therapist, Claudio Colombi.
